[Newsis] Turning ‘Cell-to-Cell Communication’ into Therapeutics — Kyung Hee Medical Science Research Institute and StemExOne Join Forces

[Seoul=Newsis, Reporter Baek Young-mi] The Kyung Hee Medical Science Research Institute and StemExOne, a biotechnology company developing stem cell-derived exosome-based therapeutics, have joined forces to advance the development of exosome therapies.

Stem cell-derived exosomes are a type of extracellular vesicle (EV) released by cells that act as biological messengers, facilitating intercellular communication and signal transmission.

The Kyung Hee Medical Science Research Institute announced on the 23rd that it signed a memorandum of understanding with StemExOne on the 17th to conduct joint research aimed at advancing clinical applications and exosome-based therapeutics. The signing ceremony was attended by Yoon Kyung-sik, Director of the Kyung Hee Medical Science Research Institute, and Ssang-Goo Cho, CEO of StemExOne, among others.

Cho said, “Through close collaboration with the outstanding research team at the Kyung Hee Medical Science Research Institute, we will actively leverage our technologies for large-scale exosome production and specialized drug delivery systems (DDS), designed to efficiently deliver therapeutic agents at the required dose to target sites in the body. Through these capabilities, we aim to advance government-funded R&D projects and lead the development of effective therapies for refractory diseases.”

Yoon said, “Centered on the Exosome Research Group and the Institute of Regenerative Medicine at Kyung Hee University Medical Center, we will actively support the broad application of these technologies to clinical research in a variety of diseases, including skin disorders, dry eye and dry mouth, and interstitial cystitis. We look forward to generating meaningful research outcomes through this collaboration.”
