[Edaily] Kyung Hee Medical Science Research Institute Signs MOU with Exosome-Based Drug Developer StemExOne

[Edaily, Reporter Lee Soon-yong] The Kyung Hee Medical Science Research Institute, led by Director Yoon Kyung-sik, signed a memorandum of understanding on the 17th with StemExOne, a biotechnology company developing therapeutics based on stem cell-derived exosomes, to promote joint research.

Stem cell-derived exosomes are a type of extracellular vesicle (EV) released by cells that act as biological messengers for intercellular communication and signal transmission.

Around 10 representatives attended the signing ceremony, including Yoon Kyung-sik, Director of the Kyung Hee Medical Science Research Institute; Prof. Ki-Heon Jeong of the Department of Dermatology at Kyung Hee University Hospital; Ssang-Goo Cho, CEO of StemExOne; and Geun-Ho Kang, Team Leader at StemExOne.

The agreement focuses on joint research for clinical applications and the development of exosome-based therapeutics, as well as participation in government-funded industry-academia collaboration projects.

Ssang-Goo Cho, CEO of StemExOne, said, “Through close collaboration with the outstanding researchers at the Kyung Hee Medical Science Research Institute, we will actively leverage our technologies for large-scale exosome production and specialized drug delivery systems (DDS). By doing so, we aim to advance government-funded R&D projects and lead the development of effective therapeutics for refractory diseases.”

Yoon Kyung-sik, Director of the Kyung Hee Medical Science Research Institute, said, “Centered on the Exosome Research Group and the Institute of Regenerative Medicine at Kyung Hee University Medical Center, we will actively support the broad application of these technologies to clinical research in a variety of diseases, including skin disorders, dry eye and dry mouth, and interstitial cystitis. We look forward to generating meaningful outcomes through this collaboration.”
